Killarney is an incredibly beautiful little gem nestled on the shores of Georgian Bay. I’ve done many trips in the park but most of them have followed the same route, with some small variation. Because of the size of Killarney fitting in a 7 day trip means that you tend to repeat yourself a bit. Luckily, in a place like Killarney there’s nothing wrong with repetition.
Start: Johnnie Lake
End: George Lake
Distance and days: 75km over 7 days
Killarney is beautiful. Some of the most amazing swimming holes in the world exist in this park in the summer months. The water is renowned for being crystal clear and the bluest of blue. This is a result of acidification which is attributable to a combination of industrial activity from nearby Sudbury and the geology of the park. Fortunately the park is healing, the lakes are returning to life, but it means that the crystal clear blue waters will become less so. A welcome trade in my opinion.
The rugged portages in this park are fun to carry, the lakes are small and easy to paddle, the sites are gorgeous, and the white mountains are majestic. There are lots of fun day hikes to be had with spectacular views.
